Dear Patients and Friends:

It is with mixed emotions that I am announcing my retirement, at the end of June, 2025.  I have practiced Gastroenterology for over 35 years, having joined Atlantic Digestive Specialists in 2011.

I have been truly honored by patient loyalty over the years, with some patients having seen me for 25+ years.  While it is difficult ending patient relationships that have lasted decades, I have every confidence my fellow GI doctors and providers at Atlantic Digestive Specialists can competently treat you.  We have multiple providers available to assume your Gastroenterology care in both our Portsmouth and Somersworth offices, ensuring complete continuity of your care.

Providers of this practice cover several area hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers, enabling patient choice as far as the location of any future procedures you may need to be performed.

I wish all my patients good health and happiness both now and in the future.

I look forward to spending more time with my family and traveling.  I am blessed with good health at this time and plan to squeeze in an occasional triathlon to remain active!

Learning which gastroenterologist a physician would send a loved one to is critical information, and the recent poll conducted by NH Magazine has the answer – physicians most trust Atlantic Digestive Specialists.

The annual poll asks all licensed physicians in New Hampshire to choose who they would have provide medical care for their friends and loved ones. Drs. Damianos, Epstein, Hyett, Lewis, Lynch, Maher, Ruben, Grondin, & Baquero were selected as top gastroenterologists in the state. It is with mixed emotions that I am announcing my departure from Atlantic Digestive Specialists, effective April 18, 2020. My family and I have recently decided to move to Sarasota, Florida, where I will be joining a new gastroenterology practice. It has been a great pleasure providing for your health care needs over the years, and it is not easy for me to make this decision to relocate.

Atlantic Digestive Specialists has ten other gastroenterologists, including five based here in Somersworth, and any one of them would be happy to take over your care. You can learn more about them at our website, www.atlanticdigestive.com. I am glad to have left the care of my patients in their capable hands.

Of course, you may seek medical care from another doctor if you like. If you choose to do so, I recommend looking for a new physician as soon as possible.

Your medical records are confidential, and will remain with Atlantic Digestive Specialists. You do not have to do anything to effect that transfer. If you choose to you can also have your records released to another doctor who is not here at Atlantic Digestive Specialists, or may have your records released to you or another person you designate only through your permission. If you do choose to see a physician who is not part of Atlantic Digestive Specialists, please request an authorization form, complete it, and return it to my office as soon as possible so we may transfer your records to your new doctor. Until then, your records will remain on file at my former office.

I have greatly valued our relationship, and thank you for your loyalty and friendship over the years. Best wishes for your future health.

As the COVID-19 vaccination success in New Hampshire has continued to increase, we are beginning to have more in-person office visits. We have learned a lot about COVID-19 since it first began spreading across our nation, and we have made changes to ensure that you receive safe, exceptional digestive tract care for your optimal GI health.

Office Visits During the COVID-19 Pandemic 
As the pandemic continues to threaten our community, we are limiting in-person office visits to those patients who are not appropriate for virtual appointments. Our Portsmouth and Somersworth offices take all the necessary precautions to protect the health of those physically visiting our practices.

We have been surprised by the success of telemedicine. Many of our patients have embraced virtual appointments with our medical providers and have expressed a preference for them over in-person visits. Our providers agree.

Telemedicine

We have been surprised by the success of telemedicine. Our patients have embraced virtual appointments, and some have expressed a preference for them over in-person visits. We will continue to have telemedicine visits when patients prefer them – please check your insurance plan for your coverage.

For telemedicine visits, all you need is a smart device (cell phone, tablet) or computer and a good audio/video internet connection, and you and your medical provider will be able to visit like you would in the office. If you are unable to have a video connection, your visit may be by telephone only.

Once you have scheduled your telemedicine appointment, we will send you a link. We request that you log in five minutes before your appointment time.

Infusion Therapy
Atlantic Digestive Specialists continues to provide infusions to treat our patients with gastrointestinal diseases or disorders that prevent the digestive system’s normal functioning, such as Crohn’s Disease. From what we have learned about this virus, you have a much higher risk of having a flare-up of your disease than you do of contracting COVID-19. We urge you to continue your infusion therapy.
